Smithdown in Bloom is a new community project to transform Smithdown Road and the surrounding streets with flowers, shrubs and art.
We are working with local residents and businesses to place tubs and planters along Smithdown Road, and at the corner of some Dales and Avenues streets, to make our area greener, brighter and more attractive for all.
The local not-for-profit community interest company Great Ideas Unlimited CIC has obtained permission from Liverpool City Council for 29 planters along Smithdown Road. Great Ideas Unlimited has a track record of voluntary projects run by the community for the community, having organised the annual Smithdown Litfest since 2017.
Smithdown in Bloom:
– works with volunteers, residents and businesses to raise funds for planters and flowers
– installs the planters at the sites
– plants the plants, flowers and/or shrubs at the sites
– maintains the sites (watering, weeding, removal of any litter etc.)
– liaises with businesses and artists where businesses would like a painted mural on their shop shutters to brighten up the shutters and deter graffiti
